BACK IN THE MIX: "I definitely come in trying to shake things up," says Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who has joined the cast of Geena Davis' "Commander in Chief" as a media strategist to the president. Gosselaar will debut on the show Nov. 29. "In my first scene, I come in with a lot of energy in the middle of them doing their day-to-day work. It was an uncomfortable scene to shoot," he adds about playing such a slick character. "I don't necessarily like slick, but it's fun to go to work to find the little elements that will make this character click because it doesn't come naturally to me."
In his own life, the former "Saved by the Bell" and "NYPD Blue" star still prefers to be much lower-key. "I just enjoy having my privacy. I'm a family guy. I love spending time with my son and my wife," notes Gosselaar about his spouse, Lisa Ann Russell, and their son Michael Charles. "I don't like to do anything down in L.A. We live outside of the city, so we enjoy the outdoors." However, having a baby has discouraged the former daredevil from extreme sports, including his beloved motocross racing.
"Some of the activities that I used to do without even batting an eye, I contemplate now. I'm just more responsible," he says. But one of the biggest changes? "I'm enjoying the holidays more since my son's been born. You definitely overdo it with a little one in the house."
