Barb, I'm having what I call a "brain drain" day. lol You are right, there were no pictures on the voting list. But still, it's pretty sad if they didn't recognize his real name! You have to look at it this way...you watched him on SBTB, NYPD, and CIC, correct? Well, for someone who doesn't watch any of these shows (I only watch SBTB), they're not going to know him. I can't remember who was on the list, but I don't think I knew anyone outside of Mark-Paul because I don't watch those tv shows...so who did I vote for? Mark-Paul. I would probably be one of those people if I hadn't been a fan of the show. I know when I mention Mark-Paul Gosselaar to my friends or family, they often say, "Who?" So I usually just say the guy who played Zack on Saved by the Bell and they sometimes know who I am talking about (adults usually still don't lol).

Barb, you're right! If you only watch someone on one show, then you can tend to only know them by their characters names. I know I jokingly do that with the other shows I watch. Like if I see someone from a show I watch guest starring on another show, I'll just say as a joke, there's so and so. Calling them by their characters name. But on the flip side, for adults to only know him as Zack Morris to me is pretty sad.

But on the flip side, for adults to only know him as Zack Morris to me is pretty sad. I'm sure they know him as his newer characters...but I don't even know his characters names hahaha And they know I love SBTB so that's usually just easier. But that's what I tell them, that he played Zack on Saved by the Bell, and sometimes they know...but they most of the time they don't. Sometimes I have to say the blonde boy...And if they do know him through SBTB it's because they have kids they used to watch the show or they know through other means somehow (press, etc.). No adults that I know have actually watched the show. I've even run into people that don't realize it's the same person actually...they think MP just dropped off the face of the earth. lol

He's always going to be known as Zack from SBTB. There's no doubt about that. I think it's because of his typcasting that has made it so that fans only know him as Zack and not M-P. If you didn't watch, Hyperion Bay, D.C, NYPD Blue or CIC, you wouldn't have followed the changes. From that voting thread, I do think alot of people see Mark-Paul Gosselaar. He was only 1% short of making the list.

I think Mark-Paul Gosselaar is one of the very few from SBTB that has actually been able to transcend his "SBTB image" and is now known for bigger and better things, primarily NYPD Blue. I would guess over 3/4 of the general audience wouldn't even know what Hyperion Bay was, but his best known role, in my opinion, is not Zack from SBTB anymore, but rather his role on NYBD Blue. While his role from SBTB is sure to be mentioned in many of his interviews, I don't think that he's being typecast.

It's different here because none of his more recent shows have aired in the UK yet. People aged about 30 and under usually know him only as Zack (if at all) and people older than that probably won't recognise him or his name - unless they are the parent of someone now in the under 30 category!
I did meet someone recently who refered to him as "Cooper from Dead Man on Campus" though, I thought that was cool for the UK, where it went straight to video!

He's got all the age groups covered - kids and young adults know him from SBTB, and the mid-ages/older people know him from Blue and CIC. I look at him, and although he played Zack Morris, he is just Mark-Paul Gosselaar. Especially since he is now an adult with a whole new look, it's hard to picture him playing the same old Zack Morris. To me he is not type-cast, but I can see where you are coming from QK...for many he probably is. Dennis and Dustin are sadly type-cast. They're the only two of the cast that it's so hard for me to think of them playing another role. I still have a hard time with Mario as well, he still holds that A.C. Slater charm.

Dennis Haskins might land a few roles here and there, TV movies and such, but Dustin Diamond is most likely going to be typecast in some Screech-like role. There's no escape from the "Screech Trap".

Animal, I don't believe he's being typecast anymore more either. I made you my spokesperson! You can't disagree with me! haha j/k I know what you mean. In some articles I have see his name in brackets it will say Saved By The Bell, or it will say NYPD Blue, or both. M-P's typcasting as Zack Morris is over. But even he said in an interview that before NYPD Blue, he could hardly find any work because of the character of Zack Morris. That all changed when he joined NYPD Blue. He will always be known as playing the character of Zack Morris, but he's no longer known as being Zack Morris. Over on Mark-Paul.net, there is an article announcing the arrival of his daughter and when they talk about his career, they mention SBTB, but they also mention NYPD Blue and CIC. I'm glad that he's known for playing that character, but I would get so annoyed when he would do interviews and the person interviewing him would make most of the conversation about SBTB. That has FINALLY changed. So do I think he was typcast? Yes. Do I think he is still being typecast? No. ;D
