I got my copy of Saved By The Bell: The New Class tonight and watched the first three episodes of it. I know a lot of you are hesitant on buying these. Let me first say that I know we are all partial to the original series. I'm sure Peter Engel and the rest of the crew tried to make the New Class have the same amount of success as the original series, but it never clicked.
Personally, as much as a fan as I was of the original series and the start of The New Class, I was turned off by it by the last two seasons. A large part of that I think was bringing Dustin Diamond back. I think he was great on the original series, but when he went to the College Years and back to The New Class, he just got annoying. Just my two cents.
I was really anticipating this set. I realize there are only 13 episodes on here, but I think that these were the best out of all that the entire New Class had to offer. It's pretty evident here that the writers didn't have to yet use recycled story lines for episodes. Granted, there are similar ideas here, but there are enough original ideas to keep you interested. I also think the cast on here, especially Robert Sutherland Telfer as Scott and Issac Lidsky as Weasel portraying similar roles to Zack and Screeh do it better than anyone else who came after them.
Other things I liked about this season in particular is there is another appearance by James the actor (he'll have his final one in the next set) and in the last episode of this season, you can see The Max all dressed up and even see the kitchen...which has not been seen before up to this point.
Like The College Years, Image has put together a nice set. I have already noticed a few deleted scenes put back in and they included the little clip where it has the SBTB logo with music as it comes back from commercial break. They have that for all the episodes.
Even if you are not a huge fan of The New Class or are on the fence...spend the few bucks to get this. It is cheap and plus...if the turn out to buy this is crappy...the chance of them releasing future ones is not good and I would like to get season 4 where The Max is burned down and Mario Lopez makes a guest appearance.
