TATFAN! No offense to me being old!!!! hahaha I will have you know that I was still a teenager when Zack and Kelly got married!!!!! Okay, I was in my late teens, but I was still a teen! hahaha No offence taken! ya know I love ya Tatfan. I'm just joking with ya. I'm probably the oldest, or close to being the oldest on here at the age of 28, btu I don't care. Love the show.
Back on topic, plot some revenge later, I don't know if The College Years would have made it on Sat. mornings. I liked how they were able to mature the show in primetime, but even in primetime, I don't think it would have mattered what night it was on. I can honestly say that I don't think Tiffani would have returned if the show had gone back to Sat. morning. I guess things happened the way they were supposed to happen.

I think the show might not have been that popular at the time, but I think a few years later then it would maybe, just maybe have been a hit. (Think of the "Just Deal" era)

That's true. But the reason why SBTB didn't last is because of their competition. They were going up against FRIENDS. And we all know how be Friends is. college years were on nbc..and it aired on tuesdays and i think they gave it a small run on mondays..the reality is that the show wasn't mature enough to attract another audience and it was changed enough that fans of the high school version weren't too into it... morning ratings don't equal good prime time ratings...

The problem was that the standard for humor is a lot higher in primetime than it is during a Saturday morning broadcast. I read somewhere that the salaries for salaries for the actors was six-times more than they were being paid when SBTB aired on Saturday mornings. Because so much more money is at stake, a show airing in prime time has to draw many more viewers in order to make enough money off advertising to turn a profit.
The problem with TCY is that it really wasn't funny enough to draw enough viewers to succeed in that time slot. I remember watching some episodes of TCY when it first aired and I thought it paled in comparison to the original series. It was really a shame because I had been looking forward to watching it.

For me.. not sure when i noticed the TCY on tv.. i was just flippin channels and saw it said "Saved by the Bell: College Years" and i'm like "MUST SEE!!" However.. to be honest, like some of you already posted... i didn't really find TCY that interesting.. i mean it was funny but not funny enough and i kinda watched Full House as well lol But i agree with the New Class.. i gave it a lil go.. watched a few episodes but i disliked it alot.. i'm like "The original cast was much better..this is just weird.." lol But i'd watch SBTB and TCY any time

I know that's an old post, but the show was NEVER on against Friends. Friends didn't start until the season AFTER TCY was over, and Friends was on Thursdays, while SBTB was on Tuesday.
The show wasn't going to work no matter what because the audience wasn't big enough. The audience that watched on Tuesday was likely the audience that watched on Saturday morning, and a good audience on Saturday morning is much smaller than a good audience on Tuesday night.
The show was basically DOA because, despite being funny, it wasn't prime time funny, and it wasn't going to attract new fans. Unfortunately.

Dang guys, i thought you would have known why TCY was cancelled. It was because the new class came out and NBC didnt want two saved by the bell shows running at the same time. And the guy at NBC said something like " if it isnt broke, dont fix it" . It was said on Saved by the bell True Hollywood Story.

I really didn't like the new class I only watched one eps. and that was the eps where zack & slater& Lisa returned to bayside.... I still don't get why it lasted so long! I mean it's weird that they got enough ratings and TCY didn't....

Even if only half of the number of people who watched TCY watched The New Class, it wouldn't matter. Saturday mornings didn't need terribly high ratings. Tuesday night did.
