Essence Atkins is on that show "Half and Half".
I bet the College Years would have been canceled earlier had Atkins stayed and Tiffani Thiessen never appeared.

Hey do you guys remember Danielle Marks from the pilot episode? Do you think if she continued to stay on the show she would have been a good character. Or are you glad that the pilot episode was the last we saw of her? I think Danielle Marks was an okay character. To me she seemed like a Jessie wannabe, and I was actually glad that she left. I don't think she would have been a good character.

I think her character was boring. There was nothing to her. You could tell she was a supporting character, she didn't really have any lines. I think they knew she wasn't going to be around.

I didn't like her...she was a bit boring...when Tiffany decided to join the show again....was that the reason why Danielle Marks only was on one eps. in the show??

Yes, they got rid of Danielle Marks because Tiffani joined the cast. Tiffani was hesitant at first so they filmed the pilot with Danielle.

that was a good choice! i wonder why they decided to get rid of danielle and keep leslie. Who knows. Probably because Leslie's character had such a strong role in the university that it would be weird if she transferred to another university. That, and she made a love interest for Zack so there would be conflict.

Most pilots for TV shows feature characters that are dropped and subbed with others that make a longer lasting impression or produce better chemistry with castmates (SBTB is one of them). In The College Years, the character of Danielle Marks appears only in the pilot episode. Once the show was picked up by NBC and its sponsors, Danielle was dropped and Tiffani Thiessen reprised her Kelly role.
In order to keep storylines and episodes fresh, they had to introduce new characters, to justify the show not being a mere copy of the original SBTB. Imagine if Elizabeth Berkeley and Lark Voorhies were transferred over to this show as well. The show would have just become repetitive with the same old characters, possibly rehashing the same storylines we had seen earlier.
I have to agree with Barb. Leslie provided a love interest for Zack that I really can't see with Danielle. Obviously, Alex was paired with Slater, so with that in place and Tiffani Thiessen coming on board, Danielle was the obvious choice to have booted.
