I am super exited right now! ;D Every year my school organizes an exchange program with America. And ofcourse I really want to go, I think it is a great way to learn more about the American culture and I will see a real high school ;D A week ago,I had a talk with the teachers who will chaperon with this trip, they asked me some questions, to see if I am good enough to represent our school and country ( Netherlands). And if I am motivated enough. Well....today I heard that I am selected to go!!! Their preparing things now and If everything goes well, I will be in the States next year, round this time... I really needed to tell this, because I am really exited and can’t wait to go! Anyway we will be going to our twin city...Temecula. Now to be honest I never heard of that place (*shame shame) I know that it is in California, but I was wondering if someone could tell me more about Temecula? And also important...ofcourse I have to bring something for my host-family....any ideas what I could bring??

That's pretty cool. I went to Temecula once when I was really little... I just remember it being like a desert. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TemeculaYou can read more about it there.

That is awesome! I've never heard of the city either, but I'm sure it's great there! What to bring? I would bring something special to your country/culture. Something that represents what's special to you and something that is popular over there. Maybe one night you can make dinner for them too...something that you eat over there that you might not find over here, or maybe your country makes something we have, but you make it your own special way. My sister has an online friend from Italy, and I just loved it when he brought gifts over from there that we didn't really have here. My favorite is a necklace he gave me. If you didn't know the story behind it then it's just a necklace...but along with it came a little "brochure" about what the necklace represented. I don't remember the story off hand, but knowing it's from Italy and it's from him makes it special to me. Also, at the time, he gave me a Backstreet Boys CD that was only released in Europe and had tracks that I had never heard before, so I was excited about that. (hey, I was like 12 lol) But you probably won't know anything about their taste in stuff, will you? If you do, and maybe the man of the house likes sports (american football is the big sport here)...you could buy him something from one of your home teams. Just some thoughts. ---Question for everyone here - do they allow you to fly with liquids again? Cause if they don't then you have to keep that in mind, so no wine.

Hey Sbtbfan,
I've been to temecula a couple of times. Its actually really pretty there. They have a place called "Old Town Temecula", which is pretty cool. They have a huge mall too, if your into that. Also they have another area called Temecula Wine Country, which consists of a bunch of winerys. Thats pretty much the jist of it.

Thanx for the info about Temecula ! But I thought I only will be there in weekends, to spend some time with my host family....but Zach86 what you said about that huge mall....can't wait to go there I've heard that it is only 3 hours away from L.A.(?), we will also go to Hollywood and to Disney world ,can't wait...I loved Disney land Paris and I've heard Disney world U.S.A is even bigger Barb thanx for the ideas! The only special things we have here are tulips and wooden shoes I guess I could go to a gift shop in our capital for "real Dutch things" And I will correspond with someone for a year, so I will get to know him/her better....that could lead to some more things to bring.... What a great idea to make dinner for them! I will absolutely do that! thanx! Your question about liquids...I thought that it is still forbidden

However the last days were pretty scary, beacause of all the fires.I hope evrybody is ok... Glad you had a great time! ;D What were some things you did while you were here? And what was your favorite thing to do...and eat? lol Did you ever figure out what to take them for their gift? You know, you should definitely write about your experience before you forget any of it. (you'd be surprised how much you'll forget in such a short time span) Did you keep a journal while you were there? Again, glad you had a great time! ...But I bet you're glad to be back home too!

I just looked into this place via Wikipedia...and it says it's right beside San Diego. That's crazy you had to deal with the fires. Were you in the middle of the fires or weren't you affected? I hope your host family is all right. Was your trip cut short because of it?
