I have been a fan of the old shows sinced they originally aired, but had not seen and of "The New Class" episodes until recently (I picked up seasons 1 and 3 on DVD.)
A lot of people have knocked The New Class for one reason or another, but I have to say they really grew on me. Sure, they re-use old storylines, but generally just the good ones, and they also put enough of a spin on them to make them fresh. It made me realize that it wasn't just the original cast that made this series great, but also the formula of the show itself.
It's a shame that they did a cast change after the first season. I really liked the 3 cast members they dropped. The ones they added were... eh. And the "Crunch" guest star has to be my favorite from any season of "Saved By the Bell".
In other words, for those of you who haven't checked "The New Class" out, I think you'll appreciate this continuation at Bayside High.

I'll have to check it out. Thanx. I never really gave it a chance. I've only saw a few episodes and it just wasn't the same for me. Too bad they don't show any episodes on tv anymore. I'll definitely have to check it out, though.

It's funny when you pick up on stuff from the original series. In an episode from the first season of "The New Class", Mr Belding gives Scott "double detention". When Scott tells him there is no such thing as double detention, Mr. Belding says, "I just made it up". It occurred to me at that moment that Mr. Belding didn't make up double detention, Zack did. He gave Belding double detention in the episode where he is principal for a week.

Scott was definately too much like Zack, but you really have to have the schemer in that role for it to work. Weasel was different enough from Screech I think (except for the general look and the hair). Not too absent-minded, wasn't cracking his voice every two seconds.
Dropping them and transistioning Tommy D into a complete moron seems like a move in the wrong direction.

I agree. Transitioning Tommy D was a bad move. I actually liked Scott and Weasel. Weasel was a toned down Screech, which was a good thing IMO, and Brian and Ryan who followed seemed like a "watered down" version of Zack and would rarely take the risks that Zack would. Exception for Ryan faking a fire drill to miss a test in season 3. Yes the acting wasn't great, but just like the original cast, they get better with every season.

I haven't seen Brian yet, but Ryan is an incredibly watered down Zack. He literally has almost no screen presence, and they are expecting him to be the centerpiece in the show. At least Scott and Weasel had charisma, and I think they would have gotten even better over time.

I tried, I really did, but to me it just seemed like they were trying to remake the original. So, I just stick to Zack and the gang now.

If I was up and if I was home I'd watch it...but I probably only saw about 20-30 episodes...sounds like a lot, but it's not lol

yeah i agree, the new class is not the same-- i'm a loyal Old Skool fan. after i watched the New Class, it doesn't even come close to the original members. I'm not a big fan of the College Years either, cuz the original casts seem to have gotten chubbier, and the new female dormates are just kinda crazy. They dont replace Lisa Turtle and Jessica Spano.

I like them all. If you go in with the mindset of the original SBTB with the spinoffs, then you will get disappointed every time. Its not the same and it's not supposed to be the same. The only thing that is the same is that they go through similar problems/circumstances, tweaked a bit to fit the situation. Much like how our lives were in high school. Very similar, but unique as well.
