Hey Gang, Yah, know though, they had the same problem on Charles in Charge that SBTB had...they dumbed down the dumb/nerd character way too much. On Charles in Charge Buddy was not the simpleton he became by the end of the show. The same thing happened to Screech on SBTB. By the time he got to The New Class he was not the same character that started out on GMMB. In those GMMB and early SBTB episodes Screech gave as good as he got from Zach. But near the end both Screech on SBTB and Buddy on Charles in Charge became very different characters than they were originally written. It's too bad, both of those characters were much better in their original form. The ;D Friar I'm still not understanding this "dumbing down of Screech" business. Screech never "gave as good as he got" from Zack. Zack was always supposed to be his superior. And the stupidity did not begin with the New Class. He asked what the number for 911 was and felt that if he had a fake ID that said he was 18, he would really be 18 back in his high school years . But he was much funnier on the New Class. Mr. Belding was a much better foil. I think this program shares 2 other unusual traits with SBTB The New Class. The first was that both shows were unfairly savaged by TV critics. Most of these critics, probably saw very few episodes. In reality these were 2 of the funniest sitcoms I've ever watched (and I have watched a tremendous amount of television in my time. Both shows also had the very unusual situation of a cast overhaul. In Charles in Charge, the only characters to appear in every season (let alone every episode) are Charles and Buddy. In SBTB The New Class, Mr. Belding was the only character to appear in all 6 seasons (and also appeared in every episode). I hope they release the rest of Charles in Charge on DVD.

Screech did seem smarter in the beginning of the show than he did later on, and in TNC he was just too cheesy. More like a genius with a lack of common sense and very gulible. Later on he got to be too much for me...too abnormal. I liked him better in the beginning. When he didn't do the strange faces and voices.

In the early years, meaning GMMB and for a little while on SBTB Screech wasn't nearly as dumb as he was in the later seasons of SBTB and by the time he hit TNC he was an out right idiot. And yes, if you watch the GMMB eps. and the early SBTB he did give as good as he got from Zack (like the ep. when they were listening into the girls' slumber party) I never said the stupidity started with TNC. I stated that the Screech character was so far removed from what he once was that he was almost unrecognizable as the same Screech when the show started. If you watch those early eps. Screech wasn't the simpleton he was say at the beach club and so on. Buddy on CinC was written the same way as was Potsy and Ralph Mouth on Happy Days, etc. I do agree with you on one point though, I hope they release the rest of CinC! I loved that show inspite of what they did to Buddy. The ;D Friar

I don't think I ever saw 'Charles in Charge'. The name rings a bell though, so think it was shown in England, probably on satelite which I didn't have at the time. Either that or when it was shown I was in a job where I had no time to watch tv!! (a bit like now really, thank god for sites like this where I can reminisce over the old and some of the best shows I used to enjoy).

In the first season of CinC, Buddy was Charles' best friend. After that, I found that they turned Buddy into Charles' gullible side kick. It is an enjoyable show and I do hope that you can get all the seasons of it Friar.

Hey Gang,
I just received in the mail CIC season 2. My wife and daughter have been watching it with me and we just laugh all the time. What a great show this was and like SBTB one I can watch with my daughter without being embarrassed. Great stuff!!! Can't wait for season 3!

Sorry Erika! Not trying to rub it in!!! I am excited about these coming out a little faster now. I think there was a year between season 1 and 2 and about 6 months between 2 and 3, so I hope to see more soon. The ;D Friar
