Mario Lopez has sent out a message to Broadway: "I can do that!"
The hard-bodied actor caused a commotion when he shook his booty on "Dancing with the Stars" and later bared it on "Nip/Tuck."
Now he wants to bring that signature sizzle to the Great White Way and has already powwowed with producers of "A Chorus Line" about making it happen.
Appearing Friday on "Live with Regis and Kelly" to promote his Oxygen movie "Husband for Hire," airing Saturday night, Lopez revealed that he’d seen "A Chorus Line" the previous night and that "it was great. I loved it."
When Kelly Ripa asked Lopez if a role in the Michael Bennett musical about dancers at an audition could be in his future, he said. "Yeah, I mean it would be great. I’d love to work it out." He’s looking into how it fits into his schedule.
A spokesman for the show confirmed that the ex-"Saved by the Bell" stud saw the show and "has expressed interest in doing it on Broadway."
Lisa Perkins, Lopez’s publicist, told Daily News that her client met with show’s producers on Thursday night.
"He loves the show," she said, adding that no offer has been made and had no information regarding dates or what role he’s up for. "Mario’s a strong dancer," said one Broadway insider. "What role couldn’t he do?" Well, Cassie, Morales and Sheila, to name a few. But there are plenty of guys Lopez could play. Said the source, "They’re all wearing tights too."
