King of the Hill Dec 16, 1989 This episode moves the gang from Junior High to Bayside High School and introduces both A.C. Slater and Jessie Spano to the group. Original Air Date December 16, 1989 Runtime 24 minutes Welcome to the new board! We will run each episode for 2 weeks. I think that's a good amount of time. Not too long, but not too short. For the next two weeks we will watch "King of the Hill." This thread may be used for chating about the episode, so try not to get off topic. Since this is the first time we've done this it will be more like a test-run. As time goes on we will find out what we like and what we don't like about this board, and as always suggestions are always welcome...in the appropriate thread of course. Now get watching the episode, and come back to give us your feedback, questions, and whatever else may come to mind! Let's try to make this fun. Don't take things too seriously...why? Because it's SBTB! ;D

MP and Mario look SOOOO young! ;D Its soo weired to know what they are going to look like in the future! This was one of my favorite episodes! I liked Slater's arrogence twords the others. But i'm glad that they wrote them as friends in the future because otherwise, i don't think it would have worked out. It looks to me that this was the first or at least one of the first episodes ever FILMED. But of course it didn't AIR first.
Episode Rating: 10/10 ;D

It was the very first episode filmed. This isn't on my top list, but it is fun to see how the show started. I prefer to see shows developed to their fullest potential with the characters having more of a background. I feel bad for Zack in this episode because if it hadn't been for Slater moving to Bayside then Zack would've had no problem getting Kelly. However, with Slater showing up he got to prove his love for her and we all know what happens there. I prefer Screech in these beginning episodes the best. It's much more realistic and it's easy to picture a group of people hanging out with him, because he's just a kid that's so lovable and you feel bad for him. Once he turned "Screechy" he got to be an annoyance...well, for me anyways. lol I didn't like Slater in these early episodes, especially this one, but I don't think you are suppose to. It makes me wonder why Kelly even gave him a second thought. He was so rude...and too macho. I like giving the episode a rating...I give it: 6/10

Hey Gang,
Haven't had a chance to watch this ep. yet, but did catch some of it last week on TBS. I will be watching it this Friday (my day off) and will report back afterward.
Remember we have a rating scale for Tiger Vision...
The Belding Scale
1 - 5 Mr. B's
1 - Detention! 2 - A date with a nerd! 3 - A Mr. B laugh! 4 - Screech doing your homework! 5 - Date to the Prom with Zach or Kelly!
So watch those great, old SBTB episodes and talk and rate away!!!

This one is one of my favorite episodes. Zack is the most popular one in the school and wants Kelly. I love the way they brought Slater in to kind of sweep Kelly off her feet. I think it gave Zack more of a challenge. I have to say that I am glad they got rid of that leather jacket in later episodes. It just didn't suit him. This is also one of my favs because it gives us a bit of an idea of what the characters were going to be like. Barb, what did you find rude about Slater and why did you think he was to macho? I do agree with what you said about Screech. I don't know how the ratings system works yet so I'm going to give this episode an 8/10. In the first scene where that poster of Kelly comes down from the ceiling was just to much for me.

Oh sorry Friar! I forgot all about that! Next time around I will have to do that! QK, I just didn't like how he came into the school thinking he was king or something. I know Zack did the same thing in return but I just found Slater to be a bit more harsh...after all, Zack was so small back then. LOL Poor guy. Zack was trying to be nice by introducing himself and he turns around and introduces himself as Roger Rabbit! LOL I don't know...I just didn't like him in the beginning. I think part of it is more me feeling sorry for Zack. LOL

i havent seen this episode in a while but i remember it pretty well. i have to agree with you barb. i felt really bad for zack in this episode. slater just annoyed me. lol he got better as the series goes on though. and i agree i think they did that on purpose cuz zack was really supposed to be the main character, like its from his point of view. zack was actually a really nice guy in that episode where sometimes i didnt think he was. and i agree he was so tiny! LOL i wouldnt have given slater the time of day either the way he acted there. kelly is way too nice! haha i think i always wished i could be THAT nice to everyone. im more quick to judge, not mean though just wary of people. id give it like a 3 1/2 if thats possible out of 5.

I'm glad I'm not alone! ;D
haha I just realized I called Slater a king, and the title is King of the Hill. Makes sense. Geez, I can be a ditz sometimes.
(BTW - Did anyone ever play "King of the Hill" as a game growing up? We used to play it on a queen size mattress and whoever got to the top won. I know it doesn't sound hard, but when you are a kid it's hard when you are being thrown to the bottom.)

Thanks alot TATFAN. Take Barbs side! ;D LOL JUST KIDDING! I do agree that Zack was smaller than Slater, but in this episode, I think Zack could hold his own. You also have to remember that Slater had already been to 14 schools, so he probably had his defences up a bit.

Hey Gang,
Sorry to do this to you QK (you're still my buddy!), but I would have to say that I wasn't much of a fan of Slater in this one either. I think the reasons given are pretty close to my own, as well as this one...I was a Zack fan from GMMB. I liked Zack from the GMMB eps. and didn't like seeing Zack get out done by the new kid, that and the fact that I REALLY liked Kelly and wanted my good friend Zack to get her and not the too macho new kid Slater.
As Slater grew into his role he became the character we all know and love, but at this point in the game he was just the kid trying to come between Zack and Kelly.
Anyway, that's my two cents.

Tatfan,
3 1/2 is fine, but you only get part of Mr. Belding's laugh and only part of your homework done by Screech!!!

Well, I guess I'm all alone here. ;D Idid like Slater in this episode. If you add Zack from GMMB into the mix, I thought Zack could carry his own. I did like Slater in this episode, but I would never have wanted him to be with Kelly. Tatfan and The Friar, you both get F's for picking Barb over me! ;D LOL JUST KIDDING!!!
