Hey Gang,
As I said over on another thread, I was home sick with strep today, and being home sick meant I was parked in front of the TV, with too much of a headache to read.
As I sat there early this a.m. I tuned into TBS to catch TCY, something I am not able to do most mornings. I was watching as the show started and noted the TV-G rating in the corner. And ya know what? It made me proud to be a SBTB/TCY fan. I can tune into this remarkable show and not see the sex that is so ubiquitous in just about every show and storyline these days.
As it was said on the EB sighting on the View today by Erika, we desperately need more role models. And for the exception of one on our beloved SBTB, I'm proud to say that the cast has grown up nicely. Way to go gang!
And to Peter Engel...thanks for keeping it clean and making it the GREAT show it was and still is.

I couldn't agree with you more Friar! Your exact thoughts were swarming through my mind just recently when I learned of the new "Gossip Girl" ads being promoted. I am not sure if everyone is aware of them. But the show Gossip Girl is a show geared towards teenagers. There are new ads for the show that have some rated X scenes, plus rated R internet acronyms. Seriously, what is going on?! So inappropriate! We need more responsible writers....but more so executives. It's so scary to know moral isn't at their priority lists anymore. They only see $$$$$$! And what about the parents of these actors! Where are they?! And where are their brains?!
Those shows will never make history or impact anyone's lives like SBTB has. So, thanks to Peter Engel!!!!

Erika, I have seen these ads and I have to say I am utterly disgusted by what they stand for - the trashing of our young people's minds and morals. And as you said it's all about kneeling at the altar of the unholy trinity - $$$, (please make the sign of the dollar sign as you pray!). If it sells then everyone is willing to look the other way while our society sinks lower and lower into the muck of the filth and debauchery and the moral decay that is becoming our world. I hate to sound preachy, but what people don't realize is that we will reap what we so. And no, I am not particularly talking about religion, although there is that too, actually I am talking about cultural and societal values. I am a bit of a history buff and if you read enough of it and what historians write you will find that freedoms in a democracy/republic eventually destroy said democracy. We have too much freedom in this country. Can you imagine the things that pass for acceptable today passing 200, 100, 50 years ago? No, I am not advocating communism or totalitarianism. What I am saying is that too much freedom is a bad thing. And as I said before, what is being sown into the minds of our youth today will come to fruition in them as adults and in what they bring forth in their own kids, and that my friends is scary. So for now, I will keep watching what is safe. I will continue to watch American Idol, which I cannot believe sang "Shout to the Lord" the other week, and I will watch Extreme Make Over Home Edition, and a few other programs, and my DVD collections such as Frasier, Andy Griffith and of course SBTB/TCY. Sorry for the rant... The Friar PS Thanks for the comment Erika - I was beginning to think no one read what I had written!!!

Hello, guys! I'm new to the forums and this is one of the first posts I saw and wanted to comment in (besides the introduction one!), but I am so glad there are people out there besides me who feel the same way! I felt the same way when I was watching reruns of Home Improvement the other day. The rating was TV-G and it got me a little excited because I barely see that on TV nowadays. Speaking of, I'm sitting here while my sister and brother-in-law are checking out the new ABC Family show The Secret Life of the American Teenager, which is TV-14 and "viewer discretion is advised". This is not something I would have watched or wanted to watch when I was younger. SBTB was and still is, even at 24 years old. I am so glad I was able to buy all the DVDs and I'm in the middle of watching TCY ones, and enjoy it so much because even though it is a little silly and corny, it's so much nicer to watch than other shows on TV today.

I saw the ads for Gossip Girl as well and knew right off that it was a show I would be avoiding. Networks need to write more shows like SBTB geared to teens.
