After Grapevine ran an item Thursday about People magazine's "Saved by the Bell" reunion cover and the suspicious absence of Dennis "Mr. Belding" Haskins and Dustin "Screech" Diamond , we were surprised to get a phone call that night from Haskins himself. (We validated it was indeed him by asking him to say, "Hey, hey, hey, what is going ON here?") Haskins says he knew about the People shoot six weeks ago, but felt "disrespected" and "disappointed" that he was not asked to be a part of it. "I earned the right to be there," said Haskins, an original "Bell" cast member who stayed with the show even during the wobbly "Saved by the Bell: The New Class" years. "If anybody deserved to be on that cover, it was Dennis Haskins." He's got a point: It was Haskins himself who first appeared on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" earlier this year and spearheaded the movement to get the "SBTB" cast to reunite on Fallon's show, sparking interest in a cast meet-up. Haskins says he still hopes to participate in the Fallon reunion, should it come about, but is miffed over the People slight. "I want people to know it was not my choice not to be there, because I would have been there," said Haskins, on the phone from Las Vegas. "For People magazine to exclude me on purpose doesn't make sense to me. It hurts my feelings, but I'll live." Fight on, Mr. B! Here is the link www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2009908010312
