Laffs Comedy Caffé has canceled the appearances this weekend of Dustin Diamond after the comedian on Monday wanted to renegotiate his contract, the club said.
Laffs spokesman Gary Hood said among Diamond's demands were a higher fee than the rate agreed upon, a dedicated driver and security detail, and that he be paid after every performance.
"He made a bunch of demands we couldn't meet," Hood said.
In an interview with the Star last week, Diamond, who played Screech on various incarnations of the TV show "Saved By the Bell," said he spends 47 weeks on the road to support himself. Stand-up is his primary job.
Hood said he has filled Diamond's showtimes — 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday — with the cast of Wednesday's Comics for Courage show that benefited the Wounded Warrior Project. They include Hood, Christopher Cannon, Brian Mulligan and Walt Maxam.
Tickets are $15 through laffstucson.org; the club is at 2900 E. Broadway. Call for details: 323-8669.
