ESPN Hollywood Bites The Dust
Proving The Brushback’s prediction a mere two months before it launched, several sources have confirmed that “ESPN Hollywood” is being cancelled by the end of the week. (The good folks at Sports Business Daily informs us the last day will be Friday, January 27, a week from Friday. This means “ESPN Hollywood” will end the same day as The Black Table, which makes us unusually happy.) The show debuted on August 1 of last year, to, uh, well, we wouldn’t call it “fanfare” exactly. More like “indigestion.”
The sad part about this: Eva Longoria is going to have to find an entirely new “Mexican bike cop” to hang out with. And we’ll never get to hear the real scoop of what really went down on the set of “Glory Road.” We wish Mario Lopez the best of luck in his next career, whatever his first one was.
And man … the information we’re gonna lose on Matt Leinart’s friendship with Nick Lachey. We can’t go on. Can you?

(By the way, we also hear that “Teammates” has been cancelled too. We can’t catch a freaking BREAK today.)
(UPDATE: ESPN has now officially announced the cancellation. The full release is after the jump.)

Poor Mario...I think he's got it the worst out of the cast when it comes to reviews.

This could me just me, but do you guys think that he gets this kind of treatment because of his split from Ali Landry? I know it would be ridiculous to be true, but because of his "status" in Hollywood, that could be a reason why he gets these bad reviews. When he was on The Other Half, he took some time off to do an independent film and recieved rave reviews. I can't remember what it was called. But I do feel bad for him through all this.
Since I never got to see this show because I don't get the station, would it be selfish of me not to be disappointed about it being canceled?

I agree, harsh article. Poor Mario! I hope his next TV show (whatever it will be) is successful. I wish he'd go back to hosting Pet Star. I loved that show.

I think he gets this type of review because he has not been anything with great success siince SBTB and; therefore, is not taken seriously. The thing with Ali did not help him, but others have done almost the same thing and have not this treatment. I think it depends on your level of success and the fact they have little else to write about the person.

He did The Other Half and he did the Greg Louganis Story...
Hosting the pet show (there are other projects too i'm sure) probably made the critics believe he's a goner and he's just looking for something. I think if someone would give him a real chance he could be something big. He's suppose to have that new soccer movie come out, we'll see what they have to say about that.

I'm going to keep an eye out for him! Someone else will give him that big break, I'm sure of it! I haven't heard about that Spike Lee movie being called off, so I'll keep my ears open to see how that goes!
And I ignore the critics.

Here is an article from last week where Mario states the ESPN2 job was 'his dream job". He must be very disappointed. BTW, I have eaten at both of those resturants and they are awesome.
The entertainment side of Spurs forward Tony Parker will be explored on a national television show out of Hollywood.
advertisement Mario Lopez, host and interviewer on "ESPN Hollywood" — a daily show on ESPN2 that covers the intersection of sports figures and the entertainment world — said he'll come to San Antonio in late January to tape the segment on Parker.
No, this one's not just about the Spur's romance with Eva Longoria , though she may be featured. Lopez said he'll highlight Parker's blossoming music career.
The handsome Spur, you see, recently cut a hip-hop single with New York rap artist Fabolous and French rapper Booba, called "Top of the Game." Back in the fall, a music video of "Top of the Game" was shot in San Antonio, starring Parker and fellow Spurs Robert Horry , Tim Duncan, Brent Barry and Nazr Mohammed.
In addition, Parker has recorded a hip-hop album in his native language, French. Spurs spokesman Tom James said he didn't know of a release date. Presumably, Lopez will give viewers a sneak peek/listen.
I'll keep you posted as to the air date. "ESPN Hollywood" airs weekdays at 5 and 10 p.m. (on Time Warner cable Channel 25).
Lopez, known best for his role on the old NBC teen show "Saved by the Bell" and for portraying Olympic swimmer Greg Louganis in a TV movie, said his new gig on ESPN2 is "a dream come true because it combines my love for sports with entertainment." Lopez, a frequent S.A. visitor, loves getting Mexican food at La Margarita and Mi Tierra.

I feel bad for Mario and yes BOOOO to the article! But as much as he loved this job, there could be an even better one coming for him! This could be a blessing in disguise. Remember how disappointed we were when we found out that M-P's "Hitch" wasn't getting picked up? Now he is on one of ABC's top rated shows! As far as Mario goes, ya never know what could happen!
