Elizabeth made a big mistake when she made Showgirls. I went to the movies and saw it and was I in shock!! I think she was so afraid of getting typecast as Jessie Spano she thought she had better grab on to a role that was a complete opposite and fast! I saw her on an interview about a year ago about the film and she admits she was young and naive when she took on that role. The truth is, I haven't lost any respect for her at all! She got back up after doing a disasterous movie and getting kicked while she was down by the critics and went on and continued doing films and guest roles. It takes a lot of guts to do that. Most of her film work has been low budget, but I've seen some of the films she's done. They definetly make up for doing Showgirls! I'm a huge fan of hers and I say cut her some slack. She learned from her mistake. After all you haven't heard about a sequal have ya?

One thing people forget about with Showgirls is that technically it wasn't a flop. It only cost 10 million dollars to make and it made all that money back opening weekend. It kind of gets picked on, but you know someone is laughing all the way to the bank.

tiosrec you're 50% right. The original budget for the movie was $ 38m. But "Showgirls" wasn't a flop at all. While the movie was on theatres it took only 20m but the earnings for the video rentals and video/DVD sells were excellent and covered the budget very soon. By 2000 (5 years later) the movie was 5th on MGM Best selling list. Elizabeth said in a recent interview: when people said that the movie bombed, I laugh because I know all the money it made".

It looks like we both might be wrong on the budget (wikipedia has it at 45 mil.), but the point is still the same. It's kind of like Kevin Smith movies, he really doesn't make huge bank at the box office but the aftermarket is where he makes his cash
