I COMPLETELY lost respect for Elizabeth when she danced topless in Showgirls. Does anyone else agree?

i thought that too but after heiring her talk about why she did it and everything and that she thought it would help her career i kind of understand. i wouldnt do it myself but she had her own reasons.

I watched this movie, or like the first hour to hour and a half for the first time last night, and that was definitely a side to Elizabeth Berkley I never though I'd see.  It came on one of the movie channels I get and I wanted to see it because Elizabeth was in it. I thought it was just like a couple a topless scenes, but she's nude for nearly the entire movie, sometimes completely nude as well. Shocking, I can see why it hasn't helped her career and why many lost respect for her. Along with the whole exposing herself aspect, the movie was atrocious. Tatfan, do you have the link to where she explains why she did it. It would be an interesting read. Thanks. |

Here are some articles on what she thinks about "Showgirls" now. As to why she did it .....from what I have read in the past....She had trust in the creator of the film who had just made Sharon Stone a star (I think thats the actress...anyone please correct me). Obviously she had more reasons....to escape from a stereotypical role as "Jessie Spano". And she wanted be a huge star. I don`t think Showgirls made Elizabeth a star. Saved by the Bell did. Showgirls may have been a blip but with her stellar performances in everything she has done since, I can look beyond. My favorite part of the article was the ending paragraph.
"Elizabeth Berkley is a down-to-earth, box-office-failure survivor, and a woman-in-love whose happiness is not dependent on how much money her latest feature brings in or how the public (and press) sees her. She's an actress in the business not only because she's talented, but also because she loves it. And that -- no matter what city Berkley lives in -- is hard to come by."

I can't believe people really lost respect on Elizabeth after she did "Showgirls". I mean, I think it's just too much.... loosing respect for her?? I think it's one of the worst thinks that can happen to somebody and Elizabeth really doesn't deserve that. Com'on, so if your best best friend became a porn star you're gonna loose respect for him/her? I'm not saying "Showgirls" was a porn movie at all. But I don't think respect is something that's in anyway related to someone being nude in a movie. She worked hard for that film, she took a big risk doing that film but she accepted because it would be the main star on a big movie and she would be doing what she really loves: act and dance.
She's an actress and she needs to play different roles. I don't think she accepted "Showgirls" to erase her Bell image. she accepted because she loved the character and the opportunity to work with an A-list director.
She appeared nude in that film because she was a stripper! She apperared nude 3 times in her career and it was just because it was needed (in Any Given Sunday she was a hooker and in Lenny a stripper) but she has been a reporter, a teacher, a bimbo girl, an aspiring actress, a brave PR, a lovely girlfriend, a sweet secreary, a bitchy actress, a troubled teenager, a russian young woman.... and she was believable averytime, as she was believable in "Showgirls".
I would loose respect if she WAS like her role in "Showgirls" but she has demostrated to be a very smart, brave, professional and sweet person. I never lost respect for her: I ADMIRE HER a lot. I really do.

Maybe It's weird to see her nude in a movie, i can understand that.
But she was just playing someone in SBTB, i'm sure she's a totally other person in real life...
