Bulldog, Diamond was only 11 when he started playing Screech. However, the fact that he chose to come back and play Mr. Belding's assistant for 6 or 7 years after the original series ended is the real knock against him - that's why people still call him a dork. Even Dustin himself is apparently too embarassed about his role to talk about it. The Screech character was a terrible role for Dustin after he was all grown up. Yeah, he likes to joke about it in his comedy routine I heard, but from what a friend told me, the general rule is that he does not like to be called Screech offstage. I guess I wouldn't either though... "Yeah, I'd rather be called Marsha than Screech"

He chose to continue to play Screech on SBTB for years. If he didn't want to be called a dork, he shouldn't have played the character for so long.

If you were paid thousands of dollars you would play the dork too. He was already typedcast so why not? It`s a minor price to pay to be set for life.

I heard his parents took all his money and that his dad is still living with him. Is that true? Parents shouldn't do that to their children, it's just so wrong. Hey, does anyone know why Dustin's mom died? I know that's a bit personal and all, but I'm curious.

I know I say they shoud embrace those years and I love both Screech and Dustin but I would not want to be reminded eithier. Maybe it's just the fact that the name itself was "Screech". I'm sure if it was something like Tom or Dave or John the blow would be softened a bit. I like the combo of Screech and Dustin too, although I have to admit, I like his facial hair and glasses look a little better. It kinda matures him, ya know? Maybe that's just me, but he looks like the type of guy I usually like anyway so.... ;D

I mean I believe you I`m just kinda surprised to hear his Mom died. Thats sad. As for his Dad, I heard the same thing although if my parents took my money I`m not so sure I`d want him living with me.

Whoa...what..I knew aboutt he Dad thing but his Mom? Where did you hear that? It was on an imdb news article. News for Dustin Diamond Saved By The Bell Star's Money Problems 4 April 2000 (WENN) SAVED BY THE BELL star Dustin Diamond's childhood earnings have been frittered away by his parents - yet his dad is still living with him. Diamond, who played the nerd SCREECH in the teen comedy has earned millions over the years, but now the 23-year-old actor is nearly broke - and can't get another job. He says."My parents went through my money and a lot of it was wasted. I made about $250, 000 a year. I got 25 per cent of that until I turned 18... My dad used to teach electronics but he gave that up to drive me to auditions. I get a lot of, 'you should be grateful I gave up my career' comments... But 75 per cent of my money went out the window. My mother took some of the money too. She ran off and partied with it. My mom passed away in 1996 but my dad still lives with me. I'm on the borderline of kicking him out." And now Saved By the Bell is off the air, Diamond's career is in trouble. He says "I'm 23, I'm the longest-running geek in history. But I can't get a development deal to save my life."

oh wow...I feel bad for him now. What kind of childhood is that? I know he regrets Screech but honestly where would he be without it. It`s not lke he could have predicted at 11 his life for the next 10 years. I`m sure if he would have we might have had another Screech.

Yeah, but with another Screech, I wouldn't be a huge SBTB fan, maybe only a moderate one. His childhood must've been hard on him, I was shocked when I heard about it too. And the guilt trip his father laid on him... ouch. Maybe acting helped his psyche, after all, he didn't fall prey to the childstar curse of drugs, alcohol and complete breakdown. Gotta give him credit for it.

His parents despite their lack of parenting skills must have something right with him because at least he`s not an emotional wreck like Corey Feldman was on the surreal life. That was bad. His parents spent all of his money too. He ended up a drug addict and alcoholic. I think he`s over it now but there are a lot of child starts like him. Corey Haim and Jonathan Brandis are 2 examples of child stars gone wrong.

I don't think this marriage of Feldman's will last, and Haim is a sad story. I just can't believe that is the little boy from Silver Bullet. Brandis is the worst, when someone dies, especially a suicide, that is really bad. I still have to wonder why Dustin's mom passed on...
