Where did Screech get the catch phrase 'zoinks?' did he steal it from shaggy from the scooby-doo cartoon?

Great question Kurt Stein. Any chance that we can get Dustin to answer questions like Dennis Haskins did? And why did they underutilize such a great catchphrase. If they had done it right it could have been the next, "Watchu talkin bout Willis!" Too bad, just like Kevin the Robot they didn't know how to use the gems they created!

My guess is that Dustin watched a lot of Scooby Doo as a lad and said it in an impromptu fashion one day in rehearsal. The producers liked it and wrote it into the script regularly.
This is just speculation on my part.

It was pretty funny when Screech would say that on the New Class episodes. Too bad he didn't say it during the original series. For example, when he lost the gang's place in line at the mall for the U2 concert tickets because he didn't know where the gang wanted to sit during the concert, he should have yelled "ZOINKS!!!"
