The way I look at is that we are pretty much all mixed. Even white people aren't just "white," we have different heritages. I'm part Welsh, Irish, and Indian. My boyfriend is German, therefore if one day I have kids with him they will too be the result of a interracial relationship. Some may think I am stretching it, but am I? We're all human. Our skin color shouldn't matter. This wouldn't be considered interracial. We're not talking about heritages or nationalities (though that could be saved for another thread, so I won't elaborate). According to the standard division of races, both of you would be considered White/Caucasian. We could get into the whole American/European/Latino/Black debate, but that discussion alone has the potential to occupy a 10-page thread. Here is my opinion, though. What a person is and the type of person they become has nothing to do with races, ethnicities, or nationalities. What a person is on the inside should be the only thing that matters to determine the kind of person they are, not the color of their skin. There is a district in my city where education is poor, crime is high, and the majority of the population is black. It would be unfair to assume that ALL blacks exhibit this kind of behavior. The same concept goes for the Latinos that hang around in front of Home Depot asking to retile your roof or white people who live in extravagant homes in Beverly Hills. Not all white people are snobs, not all Latinos are roofers, and (this one is really annoying at airports) not all Middle Easterners are terrorists. Racial profiling is not only discrimanatory, but it is just downright wrong. Touching on the topic of romance, I personally wouldn't date a black or Middle Eastern woman. Does that mean I'm racist? No, that's just simply a preference. Would I date a white woman? Sure, but that doesn't mean I'm anti-racial towards people of other ethnicities; it's just an example of preference of attraction, but everyone is entitled to whatever features attracts them. Being labeled a "racist" means that you are exhibiting some kind of discrimination towards another person simply based on their race. It's like saying you wouldn't talk to or walk next to a person because they are of a certain race, but dating is something that is unrelated. Example: Boxer Shane Mosley is married to Jin. He is black, she is Asian. Is there something wrong with that? Absolutely not. To give another example, boxer Chris Byrd is married to Tracy. He is black, she is white. Both are devout Christians.

Animal, what I'm trying to say is that we are all different...even if I am considered white, I too have different backgrounds, and just because a black person has much darker skin than me doesn't mean squat. Pretend for one minute that each ethnicity was a different color...that's what I'm trying to say. African Americans just happen to be black, whereas my different backgrounds have the same color skin. I'm just saying if you really are picky about the whole subject we could all pretty much say we are interracial... I do agree with you though...about preference. I am attracted to white guys, but that doesn't mean I am racist. I have black friends, they have great personalities...I am just not attracted to them. If I was racist, they wouldn't be my friends, but they are my friends, and I love them. And that doesn't make me a bad person. Some people don't like red heads, some even don't like blondes or brunettes, and some blacks don't like to date white people. It is just preference.

We should all love and respect one another no matter what. The world would be a better place. That's my take. Yeah, I want to respond to my comment here....IF IT CAN ONLY BE THAT EASY, RIGHT?! Now with the new war....I want to be positive on a better tomorrow..but things just get uglier and uglier by the minute. I am glad there is a spot in the world where we have peace...here at the BEST SBTB FORUM, where we have folks from almost every background and every country freely talking and respecting one another.....the world needs SBTB in their lives, right?

Totally agree. It's a shame the world has to be the way it is. I constantly get people asking me at work why I'm always in a good mood, and I ask them why shouldn't I be? It's like they accept people being in a bad mood more than if they're in a good mood. I tell them I'm always in a good mood cause I don't let things bother me and they just don't get it. Sooo what I'm trying to say is, that you shouldn't let things get you down or let them bother you...accept them, embrace them, and life will be a lot better.

I know some people do disagree with inter-racial relationships but (in Europe at least) I've personally never come across anybody that took particular exception to it. As a product of an inter-racial marriage myself, I would be in a position to hear any comments on the matter and know the up- and downsides of it... and I agree that if two people love each other then who cares? I think its a wonderful thing that other Europeans (such as missdolphin) are so open-minded that the concept of prejudice against inter-racial relationships is incomprehensible! PC, you said that perfectly.

This is an issue I get aggrevated with the most because you can try to explain it to no end but there are so many levels to it, it just gets to the point of being useless to prove your point. Personally I see interracial relationships all the time. It`s not a big deal. The sooner people start to see a interracial couple as simply two people together and not two people of different races together, the better off everyone will be. It`s called tolerance people! Anyone who disagrees with an interracial relationship and sayes they are`nt racist needs to wonder why they are against it if they are`nt. I don`t think there is a definite answer to your question. Like I said...there are just too many layers of explanations involved. I agree Carrie.

Here's my 2 cents. If you believe that races should stay with there own "kind", then you are either a racist, or you are prejudiced. Not necessarily. Just because you're pro-"whatever" doesn't automatically make you anti-"whichever". Just like Carrie said, there are a lot of layers. Don't presume to know until you have a discussion with a person who holds those views.
