If you watch the Malibu Sands episodes on DVD with Peter's director commentary on, he explains a little bit about what the purpose of those episodes were. It was mainly to get them out of the school setting. It's also funny to hear him talking about filming the beach scenes because he said it was really cold outside and they had to make it look like it was 80 degree beach weather.

I liked these episodes and I think they were just to show us what the gang did during the summer.

It's kind of like how The Brady Bunch started a ritual of opening and closing every season with a trip somewhere (Hawaii, King's Island, etc.). Saved by the Bell producers/writers just wanted to take the show somewhere, and I think the episodes turned out great. Plus... we got to see Leah Remini in an early role! When I 1st saw that I was like that is Kevin James wife from King Of Queens

Leah Remini ahhh aint she great - i also got into king of queens because of her but i really love that show
im also a big fan of malibu sands episodes, and i felt it was awise move to move the boys and girls out of the school enviroment a little more as theres only so many teacher jokes that could be made (how could that school run at all? 1 blind teacher 1 deaf and it seems mr belding took a fair amount of classes - anyone else notice that when theyre developing photographs they dont use a dark room?) - anyway back to the topic - it alowed for more character and thus more storylines
and as for it never being shown - i was in l.a on holiday in january - and the only episodes that were being shown that week were malibu sands
so yes a great run - unlike the palm springs episodes which i always skip

That mystery girl was Denise Richards. On an interesting note she and Jeff (the scum that broke up Kelly and Zach) star in Starship Troopers together. Again he is breaking up a relationship. I actually just saw this movie recently and thought that was pretty funny. In fact a lot of guest on sbtb are now famous actors/actresses.

actually I remember when the malibu sands episodes originally aired, they were running SBTB in 2 time slots, instead of 1, and I would have to say that those episodes were shot to fill that time slot. That's just a guess tho.

I loved the Malibu sands episodes. When I was younger, I always wanted to become a lifeguard like Kelly was.

I really loved the idea of a "summer season." Summer vacation is such a fun and formative time for kids growing up, it seems like a shame that so few high school shows devote much time to it.

I think those were fun episodes. I got a kick out of Stacey's father, lol. I obviously liked Zack better with Kelly, but him and Stacey were okay together.
