Being as dedicated to continuity as I am, I can see Zack and Jessie knowing each other from elementary. I always have viewed Jessie (at least her parents) getting transferred from Indiana a year or so earlier than Zack's, Lisa's, and Screech's parents. Kelly and Slater could be new to the gang.
I don't remember the Zack and Kelly discussion, but if they said that they have known each other since kindergarden as well, my theory is sunk.

This is how I have played it in my head: No one lived in Indiana, I choose to ignore that little tidbit. Zack, Lisa, Jessie, Kelly, Screech, Mikey, and Nicki all went to elementary school together, but friendships shifted around from year to year, as they do at those ages, depending on classes and other friends and such. Jessie left to go to a private or charter school in late elementary or junior high. Kelly started hanging out with the jocks in junior high and less with the others, although I always thought she was more friends with Lisa and less with the others early on. Nicki went to a private school for high school and Mikey moved. Kelly stopped hanging out with the jocky kids and started hanging out with the others. Jessie transfers back. Insert Slater. We have the main 6.  |
